About the event

This workshop will provide therapists with the ethical and legal background knowledge to work confidently with couples who are separating, divorced, or co-parenting as well as children of parents in these roles. Attendees will learn what special considerations must be made that are specific to this population. Therapists will also learn how to avoid being triangulated by clients, how to avoid getting involved in court proceedings, and what to do in the event they are subpoenaed. Distinctions between legal and physical custody will be presented, as well as how they impact the communication between therapists and parents. The nature of collaborative relationships will be discussed as they relate to attorney-client privilege. Lastly, practical boundaries of practicing within one's scope will be presented.
